Special Moves
Jeet Kune Do (Standard)
style
Dragon Blast –
HCF + K – Mei-Ling steps forwards and unloads with a hard side kick. This
attack is slower than Fen’s second part of her Raion Hanpatsu special and can be recovered from but delivers a tiny
bit more damage.
Moon Flash –
DP + K – Mei-Ling jumps up a bit with a cross kick with her left leg before landing and sweeping it back low to the
legs. The attack is an overhead and a low attack respectively and is nice at
close quarters combat. It’s a little slow however and missing the attack
will make her very vulnerable to long-range attacks.
Dragon Fly –
HCB + K – Mei-Ling steps off the ground and delivers a classic flying kick onto the opponent’s head. The move has a bit of a delay before it hits and lands afterwards, but there’s a way for Mei to be
safe after it hits...
- Dragon Blaze –
HCB + K, P – If the Dragon Fly is blocked or misses, Mei-Ling, after landing instantly repels her opponent with a knuckle
to the face, blowing them away. The move can cause a counter wire effect if on
counter wire and she recovers fairly quick after hitting.
Style Switch –
D, D, + any button – Mei-Ling immediately changes her style, which one dependant on the strength of the button used. This can be used for any of her other styles.
Flash Punch Chains
Flash Punch (FP)
– QCF + P – Mei-Ling delivers a lightning fast punch to either the legs, head or the chest. The move doesn’t do much damage and have very limited range, but this does open up her wide arsenal
of attacks. In a way, this is one vital part of her Standard Style strategy.
FP -> Sky Cutter
-> Dragon Fall – QCF + P, MK, HK – After the Flash Punch, Mei-Ling will spin a hard high kick to the head that
launches, then spin again and launch into the air with a jumping kick, ending it with an overhead heel. Mei-Ling can delay each attack to play mind-games.
FP -> Twin Daggers
(TD) – QCF + P, MP – After the Flash Punch, Mei turns, giving a right uppercut then a left backfist. From here, she can link more moves, but it’s possible for an opponent to block the second hit if
Mei attacks slowly.
FP -> TD ->
Sword Slice – QCF + P, MP, HK – Quickly after the backfist, Mei-Ling adds a spinning roundhouse kick that knocks
down.
FP -> TD ->
Sky Blaze -> Sky Slash – QCF + P, MP, HP, HK (Dragon) – After the Twin Daggers, Mei steps up and delivers a
massive uppercut, knocking her opponent high into the air, then as her opponent is coming down, she turns around and kicks
out hard while simultaneously switching to her Dragon stance.
FP -> Stun Palm
– QCF + P, LP – Quickly after the Flash Punch, Mei throws out her left hand to hit her foe in his/her face. Mei recovers faster that her opponent, but repeating the same exact chain knocks her
opponent down to the ground.
FP -> Mystic Slayer
(MS) – QCF + P, HK (hold for Crane) – After the Flash Punch, Mei-Ling spins twice with two kicks, the first one
low and the second one mid, and if she chooses, she can hold her leg up and go to her Crane stance. If she doesn’t change stances, she can still chain moves...
FP -> MS ->
Sky Blaze – QCF + P, HK, HP – Mei-Ling merely adds the Sky Blaze after the Mystic Slayer. She can’t add the Sky Slash, however.
FP -> Dragon Fang
– QCF + P, HP – After the Flash Punch, Mei-Ling adds on a swiping slash blow across her opponent’s chest,
staggering her opponent.
FP -> Moon Flash
– QCF + P, F + K - Mei-Ling jumps up a bit with a cross kick with her left leg before landing and sweeping it back low
to the legs. The attack is an overhead and a low attack respectively and is nice
at close quarters combat. It’s a little slow however and missing the attack
will make her very vulnerable to long-range attacks.
Dragon Counter
Chains
Dragon Counter (DC)
– HCB + P – Mei-Ling puts her hands up in front of her in a defensive stance.
If she’s hit, she’ll counter quickly with a slap breaking her opponent’s momentum. The move can counter any physical attack... but not if it is a super or hyper.
DC -> Dragon Blast
– HCB + P, K before slap – Here, Mei-Ling counters, but instead of slapping her opponent, she’ll step forwards
and deliver a powerful side kick, knocking her opponent away.
DC -> Dragon Breath
– HCB + P, P before slap – Same thing as above, Mei-Ling cancels her slap with a swift backfist, making her opponent
hit the floor hard.
Crane style
Rapids – QCF
+ K, tap K up to 3 times – While in Crane stance, Mei-Ling will kick out four times, each one able to vary itself in
height (low, mid, or high). From here she can cancel into ending attacks any
time after the second kick.
- Spiral Cloud –
QCF + HK after Rapids – Mei-Ling ends her Rapids special with a jumping spin kick, knocking her opponent down.
- Spiral Slash –
QCF + MK after Rapids – Mei-Ling ends her Rapids attack with a hard roundhouse kick to the stomach. On counter hit this makes her opponent spiral off his/her feet to the ground.
- Spiral River – QCF + LK after Rapids
– Mei-Ling spins along the ground and adds a final sweep kick to the legs, knocking her opponent to the ground.
- Spiral Palm –
QCB + P after Rapids (Tiger) – Mei-Ling alters her tactic, spinning in place and delivering a backfist when she faces
her opponent again, going into her Tiger stance at the end.
Spiral – QCB
+ K (can be done during Rapids) – Mei-Ling fakes an ending and spins in place...
- Dragon Blast –
F + K during Spiral - ...and ends it with a hard side kick, making her switch back to her Standard style
- Dragon Breath –
F + P during Spiral - ...and finishes with a high backfist.
Double Waterfall
– DP + P (hold for Standard) – Mei-Ling takes a slight step forwards and give her opponent two overhead hard kicks. If one hits, the other one will connect but if blocked the move can be interrupted
in mid-performance. This move can be swapped into her Standard Style.
Curled Crane –
RDP + P – Mei-Ling brings her lifted leg closer to her body. If hit in
this position, she’ll immediately lash out with a hard Spiral Cloud that makes her opponent spin to the ground.
Spiral Hunt –
DP + K – Mei-Ling drags her uplifted leg back a bit before unloading with a jumping cross kick that does large damage
as well as guard crushes instantly. This is perhaps her slowest move out of all
her attacks but can do massive damage on counter hit, a bit similar to Ralf’s Galatica Phantom.
- Creeping Dragon
– DP + K, P – After the Spiral Hunt and on the spinning recoil, Mei-Ling will swipe lightly at her opponent’s
legs with her arms while ducking down, switching to either her Dragon style or Tiger style.
- Split the River
– DP + K, K – After the Spiral Hunt and on the spinning recoil, Mei-Ling will stop with her back turned to her
opponent and jump up a short bit with a rising kick with the opposite leg. If
K is held down during the move she’ll return to her Crane upon landing; if not she’ll switch to standard.
Dragon Strike –
QCF + P – Mei-Ling steps forwards and knocks her opponent down with an open palm with her left arm. Upon hitting, she switches to her standard style instantly.
Dragon style
Short Breath –
HCF + P – Similar to the Dragon Strike from the Crane style but quicker, Mei-Ling steps forwards abruptly with a double
palmed strike. It works similarly to Yun’s Kobokushi but is much faster
and does less damage and doesn’t knock down... You know what that usually
means...
- Dragon Sigh –
QCF + P after Short Breath – Mei-Ling follows up the Short Breath by turning her back to her opponent and thrusting
her back into her opponent hard, blowing them away from her. This move can be
cancelled out of into her Standard Style.
Crane Shoot –
HCB + K – Mei-Ling takes a pause to wind up a little, then comes forwards with a short barrage of attacks before ending
with an overhead kick. After the kick she’ll spin and end up in Crane style.
Dragon Roar –
HCB + P – Mei-Ling braces herself and then steps forwards with a huge knuckle reminiscent of Fen’s Whitecat strike. Mei-Ling’s version takes longer to come out.
Tiger style
Tiger Fangs –
DP + P – Mei-Ling swipes her arms out alternately with two claw-like blows to the sides of the body. It comes out quick and has decent knockback.
-
White Out – DP + P, K –
Following Tiger Fangs, Mei-Ling follows up with a spinning roundhouse, ending in her Crane style stance.
Prowling Strike –
HCB + P - Mei-Ling jumps forwards a small distance with an overhead swipe of the left hand.
- Waterloo – HCB + P, K after hit – After the swipe from the Prowling Strike, Mei-Ling
turns and performs a low stab kick to the feet, knocking her opponent off balance for a short while.
- - Sky Blaze –
HCB + P, K, P – After Waterloo, Mei-Ling finally finishes
with a high uppercut, swapping back to standard style by holding P.
- Dragon Fall –
HCB + K, K before hit – Before Mei-Ling lands with the Prowling Strike, she can cancel it into an overhead crescent
style kick that can end into her Crane style.
Tiger Swoop –
QCF + K – Mei-Ling quickly rolls forwards and behind her opponent into a clawing attack, sweeping her opponent off their
feet. Mei-Ling holds close to the ground and is fast to attack with this move,
bit it does light damage.
Level 1 Super Arts
Joketsu
(Heroine) – while in either Standard or Crane QCF, QCF + P – Simple move, but with extraordinary power. This move starts with her winding up her body and jumps up with a hard jumping crosskick. From there she’ll come down with a bunch of rapid punches with her right fist while dashing in towards
her opponent, then some kicks to all points of her opponent’s body, then she’ll quickly perform another jumping
kick, this time bringing her opponent down with her and stomping onto her opponent’s face with authority. After a slight giggle, she’ll then smudge her opponent’s face with her foot before giving him
a final stomp that can quite easily break the face.
Gokurakuchou
(Bird of Paradise) – while in either Dragon or Tiger, QCF, QCF + K – Have you ever seen Enter the Dragon where
Bruce goes up into the air and comes down on his opponent’s hapless body with a powerful stomp? Then you’ll easily recognize this move, since Mei-Ling created this move as a tribute. It starts off with her giving her opponent a strong punch to the face, stunning them for the uppercut that
floats them up into the air. As they come down, Mei-Ling will jump up after them
and get them in her sights... then as they land on the ground she’ll come right on top of their body with both feet,
letting out a might yell as she does so. She’ll then jump off, but not
before whipping off her shoes using her opponent’s chest.
Level 2 Super Arts
Minamishinakai
(South China Sea) - while in any form QCB, QCB + K – This move starts off with Mei-Ling
giving a low kick to the legs that must be blocked low. She’ll then spin
once, lowering her aim and giving a sweep. From here she’ll stand up to
fire off a blazing high kick, a modified Dragon Fly to cap off the attack
Level 3 Hyper Art
Shisen-Mangan
(unable to translate) – while in Standard, HCB, F + LP, LP, LK, MK, MK, LK, MK, HK, QCB + HP, QCB + HK - Mei-Ling begins with a short dash, ala Rock’s Deadly Rave but with
much less range (about only a dash’s length) then starts with a pair of alternating fists to the face, then a kick to
the shin and head, then a low sweep kick, then rising twin kicks to the head. Upon
landing, Mei-Ling will do a spinning kick to the legs, then a spinning backfist, then quickly spin around in place, gathering
energy to deliver the last powerful kick to the head, making her opponent spin violently to the floor. This move can be canceled any time if desired, but after the first two jabs connect, any move that misses
makes her stop the attack (doesn’t count if the opponent’s blocking.) Technically
there shouldn’t be a reason for her to manually cancel the attack, since it’s extremely powerful when done completely. The drawback with this move is that Mei-Ling’s opponent must be next to her
to really get the true benefits of the attack and it’s terrible as anti-air; the best Mei-Ling can get is one hit off
the initial dash.
WINQUOTES
-
It’s all about flowing with the
pace of the battle. If you’ve got another way to win a fight, I’d
like to hear it.
-
That wasn’t a bad try at all. Perhaps we’ll meet again under better circumstances.
-
Wwwaaaah! Hear my battle cries? Don’t they symbolize how strong
I am?!
-
A good fighter doesn’t think while
in battle. It’s all about feeling.
I hope feeling my fists remind you of that next time!
-
What’s wrong? All I did was touch you a few times... Are you ok?
-
I’ve been training in my family’s
special arts for all my life! This is why I’m victorious in this battle!
HISTORY
Mei-Ling was born
in a bloodline of a family which greatest strength rested on their warrior prowess.
Apart from participating in all of China’s major wars, her
ancestors also had history within the Heavenly Fist Tournament, a fighting competition held once every decade in Asia, calling upon martial artists all throughout the continent.
Mei-Ling’s father rose her and her two siblings into the family’s tradition, their lives revolving around
the warrior’s spirit of their ancestors. At the age of 6 she started to
learn her family’s secret variation of Jeet Kune Do and Kung Fu. Surprisingly,
Mei-Ling was a very fast learner and took it seriously, showing that she was ‘gifted’ in fighting ability. By age 8, Mei-Ling made showings in junior exhibitions and made herself known throughout
eastern Asia. Fans of her precise and visually
stunning technique called her the “reincarnation of Fei-Long.”
In addition to finishing
school, Mei-Ling’s primary objective was to enter the Heavenly Fist tournament and honor her family by winning the tournament
just like her ancestors did. However, she faced quite a bit of road blocks in
her dream. In her family, Mei-Ling was the middle child of three. By the time she reached legal age to participate (18), her older brother, Shun, already went a few years
ago when it was hosted. When he returned home from a few bouts in defeat, Mei-Ling
made it her goal to best her egotistical brother on her turn, which would be when she reached 25 years old.
Now, Mei-Ling is
21. One day, when coming home from shopping and also honing her skills in the
family garden, Mei-Ling heard a crash in her family’s dojo. Once she arrived
there to investigate, she grew shocked to find her father... only he was different.
On sight he quickly attacked his daughter. Although Mei-Ling tried talking
sense into him, once he showed his eyes, she had no choice but to knock him out herself.
Mei-Ling recognized
the eerie presence in her father. Rumors all over Shanghai said that people wer turning murderous out of the blue. However, she left that business to the police... until now. As
Mei-Ling’s father recovers in the hospital, she and her best friend, Xiao Fen, set off across the globe to find out
who’s responsible.
PERSONALITY
Mei-Ling is what
people would say to be a ‘good girl’. Being raised by her father,
an accomplished warrior, Mei-Ling was brought up to always have good manners while taking things like martial arts very seriously. In battle Mei-Ling rarely talks; her amazing attacks speak for her. No matter what skill level her opponent is, Mei-Ling always give him or her respect after the battle is
done, no matter is the person is vile or not.
When her friend,
Fen, is around, Mei-Ling can at times have a sense of humor. Although she rarely
shows that side of her outside of friends and family, she can’t hide the fact that Fen does make her feel better whenever
she’s in doubt. Also, traveling around with Rock Howard enables Mei-Ling
to really intake the responsibility of being on the road with a good young fighter like him.
Even though she might not agree with parts of the reason why he’s traveling the world, Mei-Ling still respects
his intentions. However, she isn’t the least bit vulnerable. When the situation arises, you can bet on her being as serious as she is in a battle.
